THE WEALTH OF THE SAUMUROIS TERROIR
What makes our wines unique is, above all, the richness and diversity of our terroirs. Spanning 43 hectares, our vineyards thrive in clay-limestone, loamy, and sandy soils, offering a distinctive range of expressions. They cover prestigious sites such as Les Poyeux, Le Bourg, and La Butte de Saumoussay, with an average vine age of 45 to 70 years, and some vines dating back to 1900.
Each cuvée embodies the essence of Saumur-Champigny, combining traditional expertise with respect for the environment. Our wines reflect our values: working in harmony with nature, preserving biodiversity, and showcasing the full potential of our iconic grape varieties, Chenin and Cabernet Franc.
CRÉMANT DE LOIRE ROSÉ
The entire traditional method process is carried out on the estate. The whole bunch is pneumatically pressed. The wine is matured on laths in our cellars for a minimum of 24 months. In-house expedition liqueur is added at an average of 3g (brut). Delicious and intense, this Crémant de Loire rosé has notes of red fruit and coconut. It is crisp and fresh on the palate, with the same aromatic line. This Crémant de Loire can be enjoyed on its own as an aperitif, or with desserts such as red fruit tarts or strawberry or raspberry sorbets.
LAURIENTALE – SAUMUR CHAMPIGNY
Laurientale was born in 2003, following a particularly scorching year. The grapes come from vines that are 30 years old (1995), and from a plot that is completely grassed. From mid-August onwards, the leaves are thinned out and the grapes are green-harvested, to allow the best bunches to develop until the harvest. After harvesting, the wine undergoes a 28-day infusion maceration with very little handling. It is then matured for 6 months in crude concrete vats. A resolutely gourmet wine of perfect ripeness. Adorned with beautiful notes of black fruit, this is a powerful wine adorned with very ripe fruit, with candied and stewed aromas. The vinification process reveals all its roundness and silky tannins. The palate is supple and velvety, with peppery and spicy notes. This powerful wine, bursting with ripe fruit, candied and stewed aromas, is a perfect match for sweet and savoury dishes such as duck with orange sauce or caramelised pork, as well as spicy dishes such as lamb curry or chicken tagine with apricots.
LES CINQ – SAUMUR CHAMPIGNY
For this blend, we select our grapes from our different terroirs and old vines. After hand-picking, the grapes are macerated for 30 days before ageing in 225-litre porcelain barrels and eggs for 12 to 16 months, depending on the vintage. This method, used for five generations, gives this cuvée extraordinary complexity and strength. Clay, limestone, flint and silt give this wine all its power, channelled by its long ageing in oak barrels. The nose reveals all its complexity, with notes of roasted coffee, black cherry and wild strawberry. On the palate, after a fresh, fleshy attack, you quickly discover its richness, suppleness and perfect length. Enjoy it with a cooked dish such as shoulder of lamb with spices, beef bourguignon or grilled prime rib.
LAURIGINE – SAUMUR CHAMPIGNY
This emblematic cuvée has been made in the same way for five generations. The first part of the grapes come from sandy plots to give the wine lightness and fruit. The second part, from clay-limestone soils, gives structure to the wine. The vinification process involves a short maceration at low temperature in a stainless steel vat. Its intense nose blends notes of spice with hints of pepper and fresh red berries such as strawberry, blackcurrant and raspberry. Crisp, bright and fleshy, the palate is harmonious and airy. It releases fine, silky tannins. This wine is an easy, light accompaniment to all your dishes, as well as to aperitifs accompanied by platters of cold meats and cheeses.
L’INCONNU SAUMUR CHAMPIGNY
The grapes are hand-picked from vines over 80 years old. For this cuvée, the whole bunch is kept for carbonic maceration in a concrete vat to preserve as much fruit as possible. The barrel fermentation period is relatively short. Depending on the harvest, the wine can be bottled as early as mid-January at the Domain. The nose is full of cherry, blackcurrant, blackberry and raspberry fruit, reflecting its greediness. This first wine of the year, simple in approach, is nonetheless delicious and pleasant. It is fresh, supple and light on the palate. It is also crisp and supple, with all the fruity aromas of the nose. The fruity flavours and lightness of L’Inconnu go perfectly with a variety of tapas, meats (lamb chops, marinated chicken) and grilled fish. A wine to share, which can also be served chilled as an aperitif.
AU GRES DU BLANC SAUMUR BLANC
After being harvested by hand, the grapes are pressed directly before undergoing fermentation and maturing on lees in a single sandstone amphora during one year. The maturation brings structure and fatness to the wine, which once bottled can be kept for up to 10 years, during which time its complexity will continue to develop. This wine releases intense aromas of apricot, liquorice and white-fleshed fruit such as pear. The palate reveals pleasant notes of dried fruit, a lovely sweetness, a slightly chalky, mineral edge and a saline finish. The palate is characterised by opulence. The Au Grès du Blanc cuvée is the perfect accompaniment to land and sea dishes, or exotic cuisine such as Thai chicken curry.
